If you were to take a moment to sit alone in silence and hear the faintest whisper of your heart what would it ask you to do? Where does it desire to lead you? What rewards are in store if you choose to follow and leave behind every trace of inhibition lingering inside? Why do you cling so tightly to a life that is less than you quietly imagine it could possibly be?
In the words of Anatole France, “To accomplish great things we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan but also believe.”
Recently, during one of my modeling classes a nine year old reminded me that it all begins with a simple dream. I asked her to state her life mission and she responded boldly, “I am going to be a scientist. I plan to stop ISIS and I will succeed.” I SEE IT because she dares to BELIEVE IT. How else do we witness a harvest of fulfillment, unless a seed of determination is buried in the soil of hope?
A girl with dreams ultimately becomes a woman with vision.
I am reminded of my sixth grade teacher who handed me a journal that forever impacted my life; my high school counselor who advocated for me attending college; my business mentor who enlightened me on the power of entrepreneurship; my close friend who told me to never allow money to dictate what I could or could not do and my selfless mother who worked two and three jobs to pay for higher education. In appreciation of all who have empowered me to become more that I could ever perceive, I have dedicated my brilliance to igniting hearts, inspiring minds and impacting lives.
We each have a unique opportunity to change our world for the better and influence bright minds ripe with untapped potential. Nora Ephron powerfully stated, “Above all, be the heroine of your life and not the victim.” How will you rise above adversity and uncertainty with victory resting in the palm of your hands? It is time to stop seeking the perfect path to destiny, prosperity and freedom. The broken road you stand upon can be a wonderful launching pad to catapult you into the unknown. This is the finest hour of your life if you dare to seize every single ounce of potential hidden from the naked eye.
Over a year and a half ago, I had to make a pivotal decision when I found myself at yet another crossroad. There were only two options, be powerful or powerless. After being injured on my job, the company saw my presence as a liability and abruptly chose to release me. I will never forget the final conversation with my immediate supervisor. She stated that after noticing how talented I was, my coworkers asked, “Why is she here?” I handled the disheartening event with a force of grace. She was amazed at my poise and positive attitude in the face of an unexplainable situation. In that split second I could relate to the words of Michelle Obama, “When they go low, we go high!” As an eagle I was not created to stoop but to soar higher than ever before.
Day after day, I turned each stumbling block into a stepping stone. I have produced more in the past year and half than in 3 years of working for corporate America. I am now living out my dreams one idea at a time. My business peer posted a quote the other day that resonated deeply, “Don’t look for inspiration, INSPIRE!” Will you dare to play by the rules you write? Can you envision yourself being the director of your own life story? Are you willing to sacrifice comfort in exchange for conquest? If tomorrow never comes, can you lift your head with pride and say, “I made the most of every second on this day? I dared to SEIZE my dreams, unapologetically!”
